📣 Woodlake Families, Let's Make Our Voices Heard!
📅 Saturday, November 7 | Rally at 11:00 AM
📍 LAUSD Region North Office, 6621 Balboa Blvd., Lake Balboa
Our Woodlake community is joining families from across LAUSD's 42 affiliated charter schools to advocate for protecting the funding that supports our students and schools!
LAUSD is considering changes that could result in approximately $7 million in annual cuts to the Affiliated Charter Block Grant, funding that helps schools like Woodlake provide important resources and educational opportunities for our students.
Families are coming together to ask the district to restore and protect this funding, and we'd love to see our Woodlake Wildcats represented! 💙💛
📣 Here's How You Can Show Your Support:
● Saturday, November 7 at 11:00 AM: Join families for a rally outside LAUSD Board President Scott M. Schmerelson's office at the Region North Office in Lake Balboa. Bring your kids, signs, and plenty of Wildcat spirit!
● Tuesday, November 10 at 3:30 PM: Attend the LAUSD Board Meeting at 333 S. Beaudry Ave., Los Angeles. A speaker is already scheduled to address the board, and families are encouraged to attend in solidarity. You don't have to speak to participate!
💙 42 Schools. One Voice. When our school communities come together, we can make sure the needs of our students and families are heard.
🌟 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Mrs. V🌟
This week we’re shining the spotlight on Mrs. Rowena Van Slooten, better known as Mrs. V! Now in her 13th year at Woodlake and 14th year in education, Mrs. V actually never planned on becoming a teacher! After years of volunteering in her own children's classrooms and working as an aide, she found her calling and says she loves exactly where she is.
Outside the classroom, Mrs. V loves historical fiction, British TV shows, and spending time with family. She has three chickens named Boots, Lucy, and Carmelita (and she's on the FOURTH generation of chickens with those same names! 🐔). Her dream superpower? Teleportation, so she can visit her grandkids anytime for a kiss and a hug.
And her favorite Woodlake memory goes all the way back to taking her then 4-year-old daughter to Monster Bash... that little girl is now 32!
Check out this week's Staff Spotlight to learn more about Mrs. V, her favorite things, and see What the Wildcats Are Saying about this longtime member of our Woodlake family! 💙🐾
