“EVERY CHILD IS AN ARTIST”
That's what we believe in Woodlake Elementary Art Work Shop. We are creating an environment for the students where they can discover and express themselves through art. The Art Room is a continuously evolving space and is in the second year of instruction. We have a specific room for visual art explorations where we work and learn as we go. All students attend the Art Work Shop once a week. We begin our year with basic Shapes, Colors, Lines, working on art pieces by Mondrian and Kandinsky. We continue with Picasso and Matiss in the spirit of Cubism/Self Portraits. A complete schedule of when your student attends the Art Work Shop each week can be found on our website under the Parents/Volunteers drop down menu. The Art Work Shop welcomes parent volunteers!
Young people who participate in the arts for at least three hours on three days each week through at least one full year are:
Young artists, as compared with their peers, are likely to:

Woodlake students will participate in a select few Art Competitions this school year, in and out of the classroom, to be announced. Last year in the art classroom we participated in the Smokey The Bear and Woodsy The Owl competition in drawing and coloring, and the district wide "Reflection Art Program" in which we participated in the 2D and 3D visual art section of the project. "Reflections Art" was an opportunity to introduce Clay and Recycled Art as a medium for art creation, the kids enjoyed the challenge and the new materials.
My name is Sharon Oren. I am the Art Instructor for Woodlake. I am a previous Woodlake Parent and volunteered for many years at Woodlake in the classroom for art. I was the art administrator for Woodlake's previous art program "The Art Box." In my own studio I teach art and do the recycled art project for Night of The Arts with the Woodlake students.
I love teaching and seeing our student's expression through art.
I am excited the PTSA continues to fund the Art Room which allows students once a week to participate in art in our Art Work Shop space. I hope Woodlake students will connect to and develop their imagination through visual arts.
I love parent and volunteer participation and ideas, you are welcome to come to the Art room any day and time. If you would like to volunteer regularly (does not need to be during your child's class) please visit the website "parents" drop down and click "volunteer opportunities". There you will see the class schedule; sign up to volunteer!
